Project InSight, A Community Focus on Vision

Dr. Sunggye Hong, assistant professor in the UNI Department of Special Education, and Dr. Robert Martin, professor and head of the UNI Department of History, will participate in Project InSight, A Community Focus on Vision, a collaborative effort through the UNI Museums, the Iowa Department for the Blind and several other community and state organizations, to create public awareness of issues pertaining to vision loss.

Waterloo Public Library
Panelists, which include Dr. Hong, will discuss emotional issues related to vision loss.

Educational Options

Panelists, which include Steve Decker, a blind mainstreamed student and Dr. Hong, will discuss educational resources available in northeast Iowa, the benefits and drawbacks of each and how to choose the most appropriate options.

Assistive Technology and Adaptive Devices
April 3
4 to 7 p.m.
Iowa Department for the Blind
Black Hawk Village, Cedar Falls.
Presenters include Barb Weigel, Curtis Chong and Joe Weigel from the Department for the Blind and Sue Hoey from Covenant Medical Center. Participants can receive hands-on experience with adaptive devices, such as speech software, Braille watches, clocks, computer scanners and other technology, as well as learn about resources offered through the Department for the Blind and Covenant.

Celebrations
April 27, 7 p.m.
Panelists Dr. Robert Martin and other visually impaired community members will share stories about the people and resources that have helped them become successful.
