1920sLousie Braklow, 2-yr '24, BA '28, celebrated her 106th birthday this year. Now retired after being a life-long teacher in the Chicago area, she enjoys politics and sports.1940sJames Oberman, BA '47, received a Legion of Honor award from the French government for his service in World War II. Robert Kascht, BA '48, recently authored the book "Good Genes, Luck, Lots of Prayers." He lives in Waukesha, WI. 1950sBill Nelson, BA '50, attended the 2008 Olympics in Beijing with his wife Violet (Wilson) Nelson 2 yr '49. Hewas one of three ISTC participants in the 1948 Olympics in London. Gladys (Sawtell) Schmidt, BA '51, is a tax preparer for H&R Block. She is also active in her church and volunteering. She lives in Manning. Jack Argotsinger, BA '52, received the Friend of the School award fromthe Iowa High School Athletic Association for operating the colock for 44 years in football and 27 years in basketball, and for 40 years as a track announcer. He lives in Nevada. Janet (Sharpless) Nelson, 2-yr '53, plays flute and piccolo in New Horizon Band and Iowa City Community Band. She is part of a woodwing trio, jazz trio and flute choir. She also continues farm management for several farms. Bob Cameron, BA '55, was inducted into the Burlington Community School District Hall of Honor. He has had numerous positions in the district, the last as principal of Oak Street Middle School. He has also been active in the commmunity. Lavonne (Wenger) McGuire, BA, has been retired for 16 years after 29 years of teaching in Iowa and Illinois. She lives in Morton, IL. Marcia (Hensel) Miller, 2-yr '55, is retired from the postcard and picture business that she ran with her husband, Al Miller BA '58. They live in Yucca Valley, CA. 1960sMary Stattler, BA '63, MA '70, retired from teaching and works at a veterinary clinic in Conrad. Kami (Spain) Tieman, BA '63, retired after teaching for 36 years: six years in Iowa Falls and 30 at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. William Barquist, BA '64, retired as office supervisor of Fareway Stores Inc. He lives in Ames. Kenneth Pfile, BA '66, is union outreach coordinator for Workers Independent News. He lives in Mount Horeb, WI. Gary Stattler, BA '66, retired from teaching and serves on the Conrad City Council. He also serves on the council level of Boy Scouts of America and directed a scout camp during the summer of 2008. Gary Anderson, BA '67, is president of Preferred Care Parnters Management Group based in Plano, TX. The company manages 64 skillednursing facilities in nine states. Jess Doran, BA '67, retired after 26 years of teaching at South East Webster Grand Junior High. She lives in Ogden. Sharn (Knupp) Henson, BA '67, retired from teaching fourth grade at Countryside School in Chanpaign, IL. She hopes to start a second career writing children's materials. Carolyn Bowman, BA '68, retired after teachin 7th and 8th grade students for West Hancock Community Schools for 30 years. She lives in Clarion, IA. Mary (Johnson) Gibson, BA '68, retired from teaching at Preston Eelementary after 28 years. Sharlene (Hanus) McCord, 2 yr '56, BA '68, retired after teaching in Iowa, Virginia, Guam, Tiawan and California. She lives in Meadow Vista, CA. Karen (Greene) Farmer, BA '69, is an 8th grade math teacher at Oelwein Middle School. 1970sJym Ganahl, BA '70, was inducted into the Ohio Assocaited Press Broadcasting Hall of Fame. He plans to retire after 30 years on the air at WCHH-TV in Columbus, OH. Roger Goldsberry, BA '70, was inducted into the Waterloo Optimist Club Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame. He has coached youth baseball and softball for more than 30 years and served as an officer in the club since 1977. Bruce Henderson, BA '70, teaches math and coaches cross-country at Atlantic High School. Patricia Larson, BA '70, is the deputy general cousel for the American Bar Association. She lives in Chicago, IL. Mary Ann (Hoelscher) Thompson, BA '70, retired in June 2007 after 36 years as a business education teacher in the Newton Community School District. Jane (Grant) Usatin, BA '70, MA '71, was appointed director of outcomes assessment for the School of Business Administration at the University of San Diego. She lives in Carlsbad, CA. Brian Campbell, BA '71, joined the law firm of Whitfield & Eddy, P.L.C. as a member attorney in the firm's downtown Des Moines location. Mark McBeth, BA '71, is the top aide to the chairman and CEO of the Farm Credit Administration. He lives in Silver Spring, MD. William Donald, BA '72, completed Morgan Stanley's investment consultant program at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Albuquerque, NM. Susan (Nolte) Jacob, BA '72, is the volunteer editor of the Iowa Elks Association newspaper and editor of the Elks national convention newspaper. She lives in Charles City. Bill Robinson, BA '72, is president of Whitworth University in Spokane, WA. He received the Charles Forman Award for Innovation in Private Higher Education in Recognition of his commitment to partnerships with public universities, the business community, and underrepresented minority populations. Tom Corcoran, BA '73, is director of bands at Northwest College in Powell, WY. He was honored as a 2007 Governor's Arts Award Winner. Susan (Woody) Rhoades, BA '73, received a Ph. D in educational leadership and policy studies from Iowa State University in May 2008. She lives in Ankeny. Annd (Harris) Voge, BA '73, works part time in a home/decor shop an dco-directs high school musicals in Iowa Falls. She also mentors four Mexican students and chains Hardin County Habitat for Humanity. David Adland, BA '74, recently purchased an engraving/screen printing business in Marshalltown. Jerry Burt, BA '74, is a warden at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. William Ipsen, BA '74, recently retired after teaching for 34 years. He taught industrial technology classes and coached Odyssey of the Mind in New Hampton. Del Shepard, BA '74, is director of career services at Simpson College. He lives in Urbandale. David VinSickel, BA '74, was recognized by Best Lawyers in America 2007 in public finance law. He is a shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm in Des Moines where he practicies in the business division. Grant Veeder, BA '74, MA '79, is a member of the Iowa Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Craig Wigton, BA '74, is a claims administrator with American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company in West Des Moines. Ann Brus, BA '75, is the guidance counselor at Denison High School. Susan (McKee) Gorenmeyer, BA '75, is an ESL teacher for Hastings (NE) Public Schools. Allan Jacobson, BA '75, is instructor of percussion and director of "The Knightliters" Jazz Band I at Wartburg College. He wil trou Brazil with Wartburg's "Castle Singers" as a percussionist in May 2009. Dennis Presnall, BA '75, is CEO of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. He recently ended his 15-year membership on the Board of Directors of Ankeny Community Schools. Karen (Burke) Burianek, BA '76, is the administrative assistant to the director of the National Animal Disease Center in Ames. Norma (Holub) Neubauer, BA '76, teaches at Waterloo East High School. Dennis Roloff, BA '76, teaches physical education, wood tech and construction tech at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. He is also the head girls basketball coach and head track coach. Jamie Van Nostrand, BA '76, is executive director of the Pace Energy and Climate Center at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY. Gordon Druvenga, BA '78, is CFO of YouthWorks, Inc. - an organization in Minneapolis that facilitates mission trips for youth groups. He lives in Mounds View, MN. Joan (Mayer) Hohl, BA '78, is a school social worker at Northwest AEA where she has worked for more than 25 years. She lives in Sioux City. Juliana (Gammon) Huiskamp, BA '78, earned a Ph.D in educational leadership from Iowa State University in August 2008. Todd Hoyer, BA '79, is the director of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/Covenant Clinic Departments of Surgery, Anesthesiology, Pain Management, and Otolaryngology. Mary Ann Johnson, BA '79, was named the first Bill and June Flatt Professor in Foods and Nutrition in the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has developed research-based programs to help older adults eat nutritious meals. 1980sMary (Coziahr) Meade, BA '80, teaches biology at East High School in Erie PA. Timothy Carlson, BA '81, MBA '99, is a senior manager/assistant controller, investment operations for AEGON in Cedar Rapids. Wanda Smith, BA '81, is teaching high school business in Livonia, MI. Todd Van Maanen, BA '81, is co-owner and vice president of Eisenbraunt & Associates, a civil engineering firm in Yankton, SD. Jon Austin, BA '82, was recently tenured as a professor of marketing at Cedarville University. He lives in Warren, OH. Steve Stevenson, BA '82, works at Principal Financial Group as a senior paralegal analyst. He lives in Indianola. Michelle (Clarken) Van Maanen, BA ' 82, completed her Ed. D in December 2006. She is an assitant professor for the contemporary media and journalism department at the University of South Dakota. Don Coffin, BA '83, is managing director and head of the Des Moines office of PrivateBAnk. He is also the incoming chairman andon the board of directors of Easter Seals of Iowa. Paul Eggen, BT '83, is program manager of the on-site materials/geotechnical laboratory at OMNNI Associates in Appleton, WI. He recently became a member of the company's board of directors. Lisa (Wadle) Vanderlugt, BA '84, teaches third grade at Aquin Catholic Elementary in Cascade. She was one of 10 teachers in the Dubuque County area to be awarded the 2008 Gold Star for Outstanding Teaching Award sponsored by the McElroy Trust. Dale Emmert, BA '85, is president and CEO of Simpson Furniture. He lives in Cedar Falls. Jean (Shimpach) Griffin, BA '86, was recognized as a Space Flight Awareness honoree for her work in support of NASA's Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs. She is a senior technical writer for United Space Alliance. She lives in Cocoa Beach, FL. Deb Vangellow, BA '86, presented research to the Better Golf through Technology Conference and the World Scientific Congress of Golf. Her research, entitled "Less Is More and More Is Better: The Benefit of Less Strength and More Loft In The Driving Club for Recreational Women Golfers" was included in both conference publications. She is a golf writer for Houston Links magazine and a nationally renowned golf educator who lives in Sugarland, TX. Thomas Farmer, MA '88, retired form teaching industrial technology and is working for Moss Enterprises. He lives in Oelwein. James Roberts, BA '88, had a third collection of poetry published entitled "Dancing With Poltergeists." He is the author of eleven books of science fiction and fantasy, poetry, literary biography and baseball history. He lives in Madison, WI. Cordie Smith, BA '88, retired from health information management at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She has been a volunteer assistance exercise trainer for the Jesse Cosby Senior Citizen Center for four years. Ed Derr, BA '89, is director of counseling at Drury University in Springfield, MO. He led a study abroad class in Mexico in June. Sarah (Appelman) Derr, BA '89, teaches elementary Spanish for Springfield Catholic Schools in Springfield, MO. Gary Gibson, BA '89, is principal at Shadow Ridege Middle School in Lewisville, TX. Kevin Hansen, BA '89, was named tot he board of directors at Hellman Associates Inc. in Waterloo. He has been vice president-creative strategies at the company since August 2007. Anne Kirpes, BA '89, was named as a 2008 Phi Delta Kappa Class of Emerging Leaders member. She works for Data Recognition Corporation creating alternative assessment programs for special education students. She lives in Maple Grove, MN. Robert Reid, BA '89, is executive director and CEO of Camp Fire USA Heart of the Hawkeye Council in Des Moines. Michael Ward, BA '89, has made five trips to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island since 2000. 1990sMarti Friest, BA '90, is a writer and editor for a newspaper. She lives in Stacyville. Timothy Pezzetti, BA '90, is the activities director at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, MO. Margaret Schebler, BA '90, is in her 11th year as athletics director at Ashford University in Clinton. David Truka, BA '90, is director of customer service and planning at Heartland Express Inc. in North Liberty. Chris Brauns, MBA '91, is a senior pastor in Stillman Valley, IL. His book, Unpacking Forgiveness: Biblical Answers for Complex Questions was released in October. Anthony Kuehn, BA '91, is a historical intrepreter at Living History Farms inDes Moines. Douglass Moon, BA '91, is category analysis manager for Kraft Foods' Customer Development and Shopper Insights. He lives in Leawood, KS. Joyce (Picht) Barbatti, BA '92, is co-publisher and business manager of "Cedar Valley Athlete" - a quarterly sports magazine launched in December 2007. She recently published a children's book. She lives in Cedar Falls. Sharon Carberry, BS '92, teaches second grade in Rosebud, TX. Brian Sankey, BA '93, graduated from Des Moines University in May 2008 as a doctor of osteopathic medicine. He is a resident physicial at the Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center in Waterloo. Randall Wee, BA '93, led the 2008 Johnston Dragon baseball team to a 40-0 record and 4A state baseball championship. He was named the Des Moines Register High School Coach of the YEar. He currently works for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Brian Burke, BA '94, is president of the Davenport Kiwanis Club and treasurer and board member for Volunteers for Symphony/Finance Committee, Quad City Symphony. He is a member of the Quad City Wind Ensemble. He recently received a $10,000 community service grant for the Quad City Symphony by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. Teresa Decoursey, BA '94, is working on a master's degree in reading instruction from Buena Vista University along with a reading endoresement. She lives in Fort Dodge. Steve Madson, BA '94, is assistant superintendent for Rio Vista Independent School District in Rio Vista, TX. Lance Menster, BA ' 94, is the elementary math manager for the Houston TX Independent School District, supervising the district's math department for 193 campuses. Debra (Anderson) Oliver, BA '94, is director of the new MBA program at Mount Mercy College. She lives in Dysart. Susan Rea, BA '94, received a master of education degree in family and consumer sciences education form Iowa State University. Shannon Risk, BA '94, was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student scholarship to Canada in cultural and intellectual history. She lives in Milford, ME.
