In 1996, the University of Northern Iowa Alumni Association created the Student Alumni Association (now UNI STAT). The purpose of the organization was to introduce students to the Alumni Association while they were still on campus and to encourage students to utilize local businesses, all while saving money on products and services. In recent years, a networking component has been added to the purpose of the organization. Providing students with an opportunity to meet local alumni has become a priority.

In our first year, more than 350 students took advantage of the valuable benefits package we offered. Since then, the program has grown immensely, with more discounts and special events throughout the year.

In the spring of 2002, the Student Alumni Association became UNI STAT, Students Today Alumni Tomorrow. The name change gave the organization a truly unique identity.

Participation in the program continues to grow each year, and our membership now exceeds 2400 students.

How can I be a student and an alumnus at the same time?
UNI STAT members are all students. Alumni are not allowed to join, because UNI STAT is designed specifically for currently enrolled UNI students.

What is the purpose of UNI STAT?
UNI STAT was created by the UNI Alumni Association to offer students the opportunity to save some money and get involved with their Alumni Association while they are still students. It allows students to leave UNI with knowledge of the services their Alumni Association can provide. It’s important to understand, though, that Students Today Alumni Tomorrow and the UNI Alumni Association are two completely separate organizations which are affiliated with each other.

Why should I join?
UNI STAT offers you a benefits package filled with valuable discounts. Over 2400 students join UNI STAT every year and use their membership cards to take advantage of discounts with area merchants. Members receive a membership package including free gifts and their valuable membership card. Members have chances to win prizes from area merchants, and we will invite you to our members-only events too. UNI STAT does not hold meetings, and participation in events is completely voluntary. We’ll notify you via our Web site and e-mail when a special event or offer is being extended.

I heard you give away textbook scholarships. Is that true?
Yes, it is absolutely true! Each year, at least one member will win a $200 textbook scholarship in a random drawing! The lucky winner receives a textbook gift certificate to be used at University Book and Supply during the spring term.

What does it cost to join?
The cost for one academic year of membership is $20. Your membership is valid from the first day of classes until May 31st of the following year. We accept checks (payable to UNI AA), credit cards, or you may charge your dues to your U-Bill.

How do I join?
Join on-line. Call our office at 273-2355. Stop by our office at 1012 W 23rd Street (across from University Book and Supply). Mail your dues payment to UNI STAT, 1012 W 23rd Street, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0284.
