Homecoming 2007 Pride on the Prowl!

Join in celebrating the 2007 Heritage Honours Award recipients
The UNI Alumni Association will honor three distinguished graduates at a reception on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Gallagher Bluedorn. The reception is free to the public and will begin at 5:30 p.m. The program will commence at 6 p.m. RSVP at www.unialum.org.

Alumni Achievement Award:
Judge Jon Scoles, Class of 1973, was appointed Federal Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Iowa in the spring of 2007. Prior to that appointment, he served on the Iowa District Court Bench for the Second Judicial District of Iowa for more than 20 years.

The award recognizes significant personal and professional success of UNI graduates.

Alumni Service Award: Rodney Foster, Class of 1983, a partner in the Des Moines office of McGladrey & Pullen, LLP and managing direct of RSM McGladrey, Inc.  Rod has been active with the UNI Accounting Advisory Council and played an active role in establishing the McGladrey & Pullen Center for Accounting Education at UNI.

The award recognizes personal and professional success, as well as a significant involvement with UNI.

Young Alumni Award: Troy Dannen, Class of 1989, is Executive Director of the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union, the only organization in the nation solely devoted to interscholastic competition for girls.

The award is presented annually to a graduate who has enjoyed professional success early in his or her career, and who has been active in the life of the university.

Homecoming Parade Route Change
The Hill renovation means a change of direction for the traditional homecoming parade. The new route will start in the A Lot behind Schindler Education Center and proceed east down 23rd st. turning right (south) onto College Street and end at College and 26th.

Jacobson gives $3 million challenge gift
Des Moines businessman Richard O. (Dick) Jacobson has pledged $3 million to support the completion of a multipurpose facility for academic and sports-related programs at UNI. The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, approved naming the facility the Richard O. Jacobson Human Performance Complex.

Jacobson's pledge is a challenge gift to encourage support from other sources for the programs served by the Human Performance Complex (HPC). Alumni Spotlight
’84 MBA Alumna Named AASCU Distinguished Alumnus
Nancy Aossey (MBA ’84), President & CEO of International Medical Corps (IMC) will receive the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). International Medical Corps (IMC), a global humanitarian private, non-profit organization, was established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs worldwide.

Aossey is an expert on humanitarian relief issues and has briefed the White House and testified before Congress. She has appeared on various television news programs and featured in The New York Times, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Business Journal.

In 2006, she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Center for Creative Leadership and that year she was named Non-Profit CEO of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

The Park Tavern in St. Louis Park will turn Purple for a pair of UNI game watches. First, UNI vs. Western Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 20 with kick-off at 6:35 p.m. Then the Panthers take on the Penguins of Youngstown State on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.  Munchies and door prizes!
