1.  Homecoming Committee Excited to Announce New Parade Route

The student Homecoming Committee is excited to announce a new parade route for the 2004 Homecoming Parade. The parade will leave the Gilchrist Hall parking lot and will travel on Dakota Street, the frontage road by University Avenue. It will turn onto College Street and then West on 23rd Street. On-lookers are encouraged to gather along College and 23rd Streets, as well as the grassy area at the corner of Dakota and 26th Streets. The parade will begin at 10am. 2.  “Entertainment Tonight” Host  to Serve as Parade Grand Marshal

Mark Steines ’86 will serve as the 2004 Homecoming parade grand marshal. Mark is originally from Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from UNI in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in radio and television. He attended UNI on a football scholarship and became a television sports reporter following graduation. He joined “Entertainment Tonight” in 1995, and then became an anchor for the show in 2004. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Leanza Cornett, and their two children.

4.  Heritage Honours Awards Accepting Nominations for 2005

Nomination forms for the 2005 Heritage Honours Awards are now available. The Alumni Achievement and Young Alumni Awards honor UNI graduates who have achieved significant professional accomplishments. The Alumni Service Award recognizes those alumni who have volunteered their time on behalf of the University. Awards are presented during the Spring Commencement ceremony in May. 5.  Cedar Rapids and Dubuque  - Celebrate the Purple in Your Life!

The University of Northern Iowa invites alumni and parents in the Cedar Rapids and Dubuque areas to an evening of fun, food, and entertainment. Celebrate the Purple in Your Life on October 19th in Cedar Rapids and November 18thin Dubuque. UNI student musicians and performers will be on hand to provide the evening’s entertainment. A short program will feature University President Robert Koob ’62, athletic coaches, and faculty. Food and cash bar provided. 6.  UNI Foundation Adds “Wall of Champions” to McLeod Center
A “Wall of Champions” within UNI’s McLeod Center will be created in recognition of those who have supported construction of the facility. Donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized on nameplates that will be a permanent part of the McLeod Center. The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility will be held at 2:15pm on Saturday, October 9. The McLeod Center is part of the $100 million "Students First" campaign.

 

7.  Panther Athletics Launches New Web Site 

The Panther Athletics’ Web site has a new look and many new features. The new site offers up-to-date scores, live game stats for football and basketball home games, and live audio for football, volleyball, and basketball games. Additional features include live audio of the Mark Farley Show, Greg McDermott Show, and the Panther Sports Notebook. All events that are broadcast live are also archived for future listening. The new Panthers Online Store will be open in October and an online auction is scheduled to be held in November. Visit Panther Athletics at http://www.unipanthers.com.

 

8. Former President Curris to Speak at Annual Scholarship Luncheon
The UNI Foundation’s annual Scholarship Appreciation Luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 7 in Maucker Union. Dr. Constantine W. Curris, UNI’s seventh president, and current president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, will be the featured speaker. The event is an opportunity for students to meet and thank their benefactors, those alumni and friends who have given generously to provide scholarships.
