Alumni Association Debuts New Website
The UNI Alumni Association recently launched its new website. The site has been completely redesigned to better serve our alumni and friends. We encourage you to visit http://www.unialum.org and check out all the new features, including information about Alumni Clubs, online event registration, and a form for address updates and Class Notes submissions. In the coming months, the Association will add a new membership benefit to its online services - an Online Directory. Soon Association members will be able to look up contact information for old friends and classmates 24 hours a day. All this and much more is available to you at http://www.unialum.org.

Homecoming has arrived once again! The week of October 8-13, 2001, offers many activities and events for both students and alumni alike. This year's theme is "If you could see us now
" which reflects the 125th anniversary of the university. The Alumni Association invites alumni and friends to return to campus and enjoy all the festivities. Events specifically for alumni include the All Alumni Reception, Reunion Banquet for the Class of 1961, 1971, and 1976, and the Alumni Tailgate. If you can't make it back for the events, log onto our website at 10am CST on October 13th for a live web cast of the Homecoming Parade. Alumni Association Announces Keynote Speaker General Norman Schwarzkopf
The UNI Alumni Association announces they will host their first keynote speaker, General Norman Schwarzkopf. He will speak in the new Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 6, 2002, and deliver a program entitled "From the War Room to the Board Room." Ticket information will be released at a later date.
UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair Celebrates 26th Year
The University of Northern Iowa is home to the oldest international educator recruitment event in the world. March 1-3, 2002, will mark the 26th anniversary of the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair. Each year, over 600 certified educators and 100 schools representing 65 countries attend the Fair. Teachers of all disciplines are needed to teach in American schools abroad. Certified elementary or secondary educators interested in this opportunity are encouraged to contact the UNI Career Center for more information. Panther Alumni Swim Meet
For the second straight year, the UNI Men's and Women's Swimming teams will host a Panther Alumni swim meet. All former swimmers are invited back to campus Homecoming weekend to reunite with old teammates and to meet the current UNI swimmers. The event will take place on Friday, October 12th at 6pm in the Wellness and Recreation Center. The $10 registration fee supports the Glen Henry Swimming Scholarship Endowment fund. UNI Foundation Meets McElroy Challenge
"Students First - the campaign for the University of Northern Iowa" has met the RJ McElroy Trust Challenge. The McElroy Trust pledged $1 million for McLeodUSA Center if the UNI Foundation could raise $3 million in new gifts for the arena. This unprecedented fund-raising goal was met with the help of alumnus Amy (Miller) Lockard and her husband Ken, who generously contributed $100,000, and alumni Dave and Cindy (Glenn) Peters' gift of $150,000. Both gifts have been earmarked for the planned McLeodUSA Center. The University has raised more than half of the campaign's goal of $75 million already, including approximately $9 million for the McLeodUSA Center. Hall of Fame Inducts Eight New Members
Established in 1985, the UNI Athletic Hall of Fame honors athletes "who have labored in the cause of fan enjoyment and institutional enhancement." This year, eight new members will be inducted during the Homecoming weekend ceremony. The inductees include Mary Bernhardt '88, Eugene "Bud" Fisher '51, Jill Fjelstul '86, John "Jersey" Jermier, Jim Miller '75, Bryce Paup, Bill Salmon '80, and John Aldrich, Sr. The induction will take place during the Hall of Fame luncheon on October 13th at 11:30am. They will also be honored at halftime of the football game against Southern Illinois, which kicks off at 4:05pm. Lang Hall Rededication Ceremony and Open House
As part of the 125th Anniversary Celebration, the University of Northern Iowa will celebrate the renovation of Lang Hall (formerly known as Old Aud) with a rededication ceremony on Friday, October 12 at 3:30pm. Lang Hall is the oldest instructional building on campus and reopened its doors in January after extensive renovations. The rededication ceremony will feature President Robert D. Koob '62, former presidents Constantine W. Curris (1983-1995) and James W. Maucker (1950-1970), and other distinguished guests who contributed to this project. Refreshments and tours will follow the ceremony. For more information, please call 319-273-6144. Following the UNI Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 13th, the Department of Communication Studies will host an open house for Lang Hall. This department relocated to Lang Hall following the renovations. The building will be open for tours, demonstrations, and student showcases and performances from 11am to 3:30pm.
