Executive Vice President and Provost search to bring four to campus

University of Northern Iowa Together for Education!
UNITE is a volunteer grassroots organization made up of alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents of UNI students and friends of the university who are committed to higher education in Iowa and to the University of Northern Iowa. Our members participate in legislative forums, submit letters to the editor, meet with their local elected officials, and write or e-mail their elected officials to promote UNI.
With your help, UNI will maintain its role as a leading university in the nation. Our Web site will help you become well versed in the issues facing UNI today and how to effectively contact your elected officials. Members of UNITE will receive updates via e-mail throughout the year updating them on issues and events as well as invitations to special events on campus and in the community.

Imagine the Impact

UNI musician wins national competition
Daniel Velasco received first prize and a cash award of $5,000 at the 36th Annual USA's National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition. Daniel, a flutist from Quito, Ecuador is pursuing a bachelor's degree in music performance while studying flute with Angeleita Floyd, UNI professor of flute.
UNI prepares for reaccreditation
Every 10 years, the University of Northern Iowa conducts a self-study in preparation for reaccreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. That process is now underway in preparation for the reaccreditation site visit in spring 2011.
UNI has been granted permission by the HLC to create a customized self-study process. We will participate in the joint project between the HLC and the Policy Center on the First Year of College that will integrate into our accreditation process a focus on evaluating and improving our students' first-year experience.
UNI College of Business Administration among the best
The CBA is an outstanding business school for the third consecutive year, according to The Princeton Review’s 2009 edition of its "Best 296 Business Schools."

Former UNI Presidents Koob and Curris in the news
Robert Koob has been named the provost at Cal Poly. He held a similar position at Cal Poly from 1990 to 1995, as the second-highest-ranking university administrator. He has served as interim president at North Dakota State University and as president of his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa, retiring from that position in 2006 before moving to San Luis Obispo.
Constantine "Deno" Curris recently announced he would retire as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities after nine years of service. Curris, who also served as president of Clemson and Murray State University, was president at UNI from 1983 to 1995.

Disaster Diploma Replacement Program
The UNI Registrar's Office and the UNI Alumni Association have teamed up to offer free replacement diplomas to alumni who lost theirs in a natural disaster. Alumni interested in obtaining a replacement diploma can make a request by stopping by the Alumni House on West 23rd Street, e-mailing mark.jastorff@uni.edu or calling 319-273-2171. Senior Women’s Administrator joins UNI
Jean Berger joined the University of Northern Iowa staff as senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator in October 2008. At UNI, Berger is direct supervisor of seven of UNI's women's sports. She also will be responsible for implementing and monitoring gender equity plans; assisting with marketing and budgeting of assigned programs; and providing support to the athletic compliance office and athletic academic advising.
Girls Night Out!
Celebrate women’s athletics by attending the UNI vs. Iowa State basketball game on November 20. The first 100 girls under the age of 13 receive a free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket ($8). Former athletes and manager Emily (Berry) Hoffert, Alex (Cook) Oakland, and Megan (Donahue) Youngkent will be on hand.
