Tonya Warren comes “home” as head women’s basketball coach
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Warren has been on staff at Creighton the past three seasons, and has 13 years of Division I collegiate coaching experience overall. Tonya previously served as an assistant coach at UNI (1995-2001) under Tony DiCecco, and assistant coaching positions including Missouri and Iowa State. HGTV @ UNI
Home & Garden Television was on campus March 28 to shoot video of the "jungle room" in Shull Hall. Nathan Spiva, a senior history major from Bettendorf, has decorated his room similar to a Rain Forest Cafe -- complete with special lighting and sound effects. The segment will be part of an HGTV special, "What's With That Crazy College Room?" There is footage of the room on You Tube – search for Jungle Dorm Room.

California Governor Appoints UNI alumnus as Secretary of Education
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the appointment of David Long ’61 as secretary of education. Long has more than 40 years of experience in the field of education and for 21 of those years he taught in a classroom. Since 1999, he has served as the superintendent of schools for Riverside County where he oversees 23 school districts and more than 400,000 students. Long earned a Doctorate degree in educational administration from Iowa State University, a Masters degree in physical education from Missouri State College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa.
UNI alumna Nancy Powell to be appointed US Ambassador to Nepal
In a statement issued by the US embassy in Nepal, it was announced that President George W. Bush intends to nominate Senior Foreign Service member Nancy J. Powell as ambassador to Nepal. Powell is a 1970 UNI graduate. Prior to this appointment, Nancy has been serving as the National Intelligence Officer for South Asia at the National Intelligence Council. Earlier in her career she served as the US ambassador to Pakistan, Ghana and Uganda.

The Friends of KUNI/KHKE present the 22nd Annual "Evening in Celebration of Wine & Tulips" and silent auction to benefit public radio in northeastern Iowa. Congratulations to the UNI rugby teams!
The UNI Men's Rugby Club finished fifth in the nation in the men's rugby national tournament, while the UNI Women's Rugby Club finished in the top eight teams, the best finish in the women's team history.

Panthers to represent US at World Games
The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team has been chosen to represent the United States at the World University Games, Aug. 7-18, in Bangkok, Thailand. In past, World University Games (also known as "Universiade"), USA Basketball has selected teams comprised of collegiate players to compete in the event, which is held every two years. However, USA Basketball elected not to organize a team this year, and worked with Basketball Travelers, Inc., to find a team to compete in this summer's World University Games.
UNI snares school record of five Drake Relays Titles
