2.  Director of Alumni Relations Accepts New Position at UNI

After 17 years as the director of alumni relations and president of the

Alumni Association, Noreen Hermansen '71, has been appointed to the

position of vice president of the UNI Foundation. In her new role,

Hermansen will focus on generating endowment support, particularly for

intercollegiate athletics and scholarships. The appointment will be

effective July 1. A search for her replacement is underway.\

 

3.  Alumni Association Accepts Fundraising Challenge

The Alumni Association has accepted a challenge to raise $200,000 to

complete the hospitality suite within the McLeod Center. Alumni

Association members and other alumni and friends are invited to be a

part of this new initiative. Meeting this fundraising goal ensures the

completion of this component of the McLeod Center, which will be named

the UNI Alumni Association Hospitality Suite. Complete details,

4.  UNI plans 'Lifelong University'

The University of Northern Iowa will offer a series of educational

opportunities through a new program called "Lifelong University." The

program will offer non-credit courses in a variety of subject areas

including foreign affairs, religion, aging well, Iowa history, the arts,

and more. Courses will be taught by retired and current UNI faculty and

staff. Formats will vary to include four-week courses, half-day

workshops, and lunch-n-learn programs. UNI plans to offer classes this

5.  UNI's Price Lab School Named One of Five New 'First Amendment Schools'

The University of Northern Iowa's Malcolm Price Laboratory School is one

of five schools selected from a national pool of candidates to become a

First Amendment Project School. It will receive a $10,000 stipend from

the First Amendment Schools initiative, a multiyear reform effort of the

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and the

First Amendment Center designed to transform how all schools practice

and teach the rights and responsibilities of the First Amendment. Other

schools joining the program are Bronx Preparatory School, Bronx, NY; Red

Mesa High School, Teec Nos Pos, AZ.; Goodyear Middle School, Akron, OH; and Northport Pathway, Northport, NY. For more information on the First Amendment School project or the College of Education, visit

6.  Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center Announces Schedule for 2005-2006

Many outstanding shows will be coming to the Gallagher-Bluedorn

Performing Arts Center as part of the 2005-2006 Artist Series.

Performances include Chubby Checker, Blast!, Russian National Ballet,

7.  Athletic Club Summer Golf Tour
