1. Welcome New Readers!

We recently updated our alumni database with many new e-mail addresses. If you are reading this newsletter for the first time, we would like to welcome you! If you’ve moved recently, please let us know your new address - this will ensure you will continue to receive the alumni magazine, The Northern Iowa Today. To update your information, please visit http://www.unialum.org/alumniupdate.html.

2. Join Us Today!

If you haven't already joined the UNI Alumni Association, consider doing so today. Members pay $25 in annual dues and, in exchange, receive special discounts and benefits, including exclusive access to our online directory! Thousands of your fellow alumni are already taking advantage of the directory service, searching for old friends and former classmates and re-connecting. Plus, your annual dues support the Alumni Association, allowing us to provide quality programs and services to alumni, students, and friends of UNI. For more information, please visit http://www.uni.edu/membership/membership.shtml.

3. Association to Participate in 25th Annual College Hill Arts Festival

The Alumni Association will once again sponsor a booth at the College Hill Arts Festival. This year’s event, scheduled for July 18-19, marks the 25th anniversary of the Festival. The Association is pleased to be the College Hill Arts Festival’s exclusive provider of artist Mark Nickel's original '81 UNI Montage. This signed, limited-edition print will be available for the first time in more than 20 years at the Association’s festival booth. Signed copies of Nickel’s ’02 UNI Montage, along with a variety of other UNI merchandise, will also be available. For more information on the College Hill Arts Festival, please visit http://www.chaf.cfu.net/.

4. Association Offers New Short-Term Health Insurance Product

The Alumni Association has partnered with American Insurance Administrators to offer GradMed, a short-term major medical insurance product for UNI graduates. GradMed offers competitive rates and can provide the security of health insurance for new graduates who are still seeking work or not yet eligible for health benefits. The program is also ideal for alumni who find themselves between jobs or temporarily without health coverage. GradMed is available to UNI alumni and their families, as well as friends of UNI. For more information, visit http://www.gradmed.com/uni.

6. Campus Construction Update

Construction on the McCollum Science Hall addition is nearing completion and is scheduled to open for classes this fall. This addition will provide much needed classroom, laboratory, and office space for the Biology and Chemistry departments. Keep an eye on the progress with the McCollum Web Cam at http://www.vpaf.uni.edu/facplan/Content/McCollum/Current/MC.asp. The addition to Maucker Union is on schedule, with the first phase scheduled to open this fall. The project will provide new space for the Center for Multicultural Education, expanded office space for Student Activities, and additional meeting rooms. The existing facility will also be remodeled and has been closed for the summer to accommodate construction. For more information on current and future construction projects on campus, please visit http://www.vpaf.uni.edu/facplan/.

7. Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Events

Alumni volunteers are still needed for the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 27-29th, and the Iowa State Fair, August 7-17th. Volunteers for the Arts Festival will help raise money for the Association’s scholarship fund by selling ice cream during the three-day festival. Volunteers for the State Fair will assist with UNI’s booth in the exhibition hall. Grab a friend and enjoy these great events while representing your alma mater! If you are interested in helping with either of these events, please fill out our online form at http://www.unialum.org/volunteer.

8. Students First Campaign Update

Plans are moving ahead for the construction of a new sports/multi-purpose arena on UNI’s campus. The UNI Foundation's goal is to raise enough funds to break ground this fall. The project could be completed as early as fall 2005. Architectural renderings of the facilities can be viewed on the UNI Foundation Web site at http://www.uni-foundation.org/foundation/SF/index.htm. For more information on how you can support the project as part of the Students First Campaign, please call the UNI Foundation at 1-800-782-9522.
