Human Performance Center Groundbreaking is July 21
University of Northern Iowa representatives and members of the Cedar  Valley medical community will break ground for UNI's new Human  Performance Center (HPC) at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, west of the  Wellness Recreation Center and north of the UNI-Dome. Refreshments, educational program displays and a preview tour of the McLeod Center  will follow the groundbreaking ceremony.

Program speakers include UNI President Benjamin J. Allen; Christopher  R. Edginton, director and professor in the UNI School of Health,  Physical Education and Leisure Services (HPELS); Tricia Haak, a UNI  graduate student in athletic training; Gil Irey, CEO of Cedar Valley  Medical Specialists, P.C., who provided community leadership and  vision for the project; and Susan Davis, a donor for the HPC's Global  Health Corps suite and past Global Health Corps participant.

Fall 2006 Courses Announced for UNI Lifelong University

UNI is excited to launch its second year of UNI Lifelong University. The program is geared toward the lifelong learner, offering non-credit courses taught by retired and current UNI faculty and staff. The courses will be taught on campus on weekdays. Game tickets are still available for the Chicago alumni event on July 16. Join fellow alumni for a pre-game social at Goose Island Wrigleyville and then watch the Cubs take on the New York Mets. Visit www.unialum.org/events.shtml to register.

Two Alumni Events Scheduled in Colorado
The Alumni Association is coming to Colorado in August! Join us in Denver on August 1 for a pre-game social at the Sports Column followed by the Rockies vs. Milwaukee Brewers baseball game. On August 2, alumni and friends are invited to attend a very special performance at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in Boulder. We will be joined by the festival's Executive Director, Dick Devin, who is a 1969 UNI graduate. Meet President Benjamin Allen at Panthers in the Park in Cedar Rapids

Meet new UNI President Benjamin Allen on August 3 at Squaw Creek County Park in Marion, Iowa. This picnic-event will serve as a send-off for Cedar Rapids area students planning to attend UNI this fall. There is no charge to attend, but RSVP's are required. UNI to Make a Stop on RAGBRAI
Attention all Panthers on RAGBRAI! We'll be on your route on Monday, July 24th in Audubon, Iowa. Stop by the UNI tent on the lawn of Audubon Family Chiropractic at 521 Leroy Street for refreshments and purple and gold giveaways. (It is located on the bike route into town and near the evening's activities and events.) Special thanks to our alumni hosts Doug '96 and Nicki '95 Olsen. See you in Audubon!

Thank You For Helping Us Name “Panther UNIon”

UNI alumni soon will have their very own social networking service called Panther UNIon. Congratulations to UNI employee Rebecca Schultze who submitted the winning name. Runners up, who submitted similar names, were Verlee Terwilliger ’72, Andrea Boyd ’02, and Anna Marie Golden ’03. All four will receive prizes! Thank you to those who submitted entries. We had more than 170 name ideas!

Volunteer to Serve UNI at the Iowa State Fair
We need alumni volunteers to work at UNI's booth at the Iowa State Fair. Volunteers visit with alumni and friends, staff Panther tattoo stations, and field general questions about UNI using information provided at the booth. Volunteers receive complimentary fair admissiona nd a UNI t-shirt. If you'd like to represent your alma mater at this year's fair, visit www.unialum.org/volunteer to sign up for a shift.
