Campus Update

Carnegie recognizes UNI
The University of Northern Iowa is one of 62 U.S. colleges and universities selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its new Community Engagement classification for curricular engagement and outreach and partnerships.

Gilchrist settlement
The university has reached an agreement with the insurance company regarding the building, equipment and furnishings. Documents are being prepared for the asbestos removal contract. The intent is for work to begin in February. The project -- asbestos removal, restoration and renovation-- is anticipated to take a year to a year and a half.

UNI Holocaust Remembrance
and Education Program continues

The second of the three-semester event programs opens with a Curator’s Lecture on January 8 at 7 p.m. in the KAB Art Auditorium, Room 111. Irvin D. Ungar is curator of the traveling exhibition Justice Illuminated: The Art of Arthur Szyk, which will be on view in the UNI Gallery of Art.  Learn more about this special program, sponsored by the Meryl Norton Hearst Lecture Series and the Holocaust Remembrance and Education Program of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Heritage Honours Nominations Sought

The UNI Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the prestigious Heritage Honours Awards which will be presented during the 2007 Homecoming Celebration.

• Alumni Achievement Award which recognizes the major personal and professional accomplishments of UNI graduates.

• Alumni Service Award which recognizes those graduates who have shown long and contiguous service to their community and the university.

• Young Alumni Award which recognizes the major personal and professional accomplishments of graduates 35 years of age or younger.

More than 2,000 alumni are out there on the union, the exclusive UNI online alumni community.
