| UNI professor honored by Romanian university Catherine Zeman, UNI associate professor of health promotion and education in the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services, and director of UNI's Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center, was honored at the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy (IH-UMP) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, during its annual University Open Days celebration in December. UNI prof helps translate scripture A recent Dubuque Telegraph Herald article outlines Professor Kenneth Atkinson’s role in a very special project involving two dozen international scholars. Read more! Inman’s War to be a movie A UNI professor is about to become the third UNI faculty member to have a novel made into a motion picture. Jeff Copeland, head of UNI's English department, said a movie production of his book, "Inman's War," is slated to begin as soon as the Hollywood writers' strike is resolved. While he cannot name the studio or other information about the movie until then, he has been retained as a writer and story consultant for the picture. Read more in this Waterloo Courier article. UNITE! Are you interested in helping spread the good word about UNI to your local and state legislators? Would you like to keep up with issues in the Legislature that involve higher education and UNI? UNI Together for Education (UNITE) is the place to start. Check it out at http://www.unialum.org/unite/. UNI's Lifelong University We're gearing up for another semester with classes full of history, culture, spirituality and financial know-how. The program is geared toward the lifelong learner, and offers non-credit courses taught by retired and current UNI faculty and staff. Classes are held on campus during weekdays. Alumni Credential Files Reminder As of July 1, 2008, UNI Career Services office will no longer maintain alumni credential files, and all files remaining on that date will be eliminated from our records. If you wish to obtain your credential file, please contact the Career Services by July 1. You can also request the switch to a self-managed file at www.uni.edu/careerservices/educators The discontinuation of the credential service does not impact UNI academic records and documentation of the teacher education program or certification completion program. If you are an educator and have any questions regarding your academic record, or wish to obtain a copy of your UNI transcript, contact the Office of the Registrar. Eldred Harman receives Honorary Alumnus designation Longtime UNI friend Eldred Harman was recently honored by the UNI Alumni Association as an "Honorary Alumnus." The designation, approved by the UNIAA Board of Directors at their annual meeting, is in recognition of his and Donna's (’47) significant contributions to the life of the University. Heritage Honours nominations sought Your UNI Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the 2008 Heritage Honours Awards. Each year, the Association recognizes alumni in three categories: Achievement, Service and Young Alumni. Click here for more information about the Awards, past recipients and nomination forms. Frank Ivan Merchant Scholarship for Graduate School At least three Merchant scholarships of $2,000-$4,000 will be awarded for graduate study for the fall of 2008. Recipients must be attending, or planning to attend, an accredited graduate or professional school as a full-time student. Merchant scholarships shall be used for the maintenance of the recipients during graduate work at any institution of their choice, whether domestic or foreign.
