2. President Robert Koob Announces Retirement

Robert Koob '62, has announced he will leave UNI after 11 years as University President. Koob has accepted an invitation from the Board of Regents, State of Iowa to serve as a senior adviser to the board. His charge will be to help Iowans achieve seamless access to lifelong education. He also will have other duties in the area of education and strategy.

 

President Koob will remain at UNI until a successor is appointed. The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, has begun the search process, which includes using an executive search firm to assist in identifying appropriate candidates.

3. Fires Set on Campus, Gilchrist Hall Temporarily Closed

In the early morning hours of Oct. 16, 2005, a series of fires were intentionally set on the UNI campus. Officers responded to small fires in Lang Hall and Baker Hall. A third fire in Gilchrist Hall was more substantial. The building sustained considerable damage, forcing all staff in the building to temporarily relocate. Gilchrist Hall is the university's primary administration building, housing Enrollment Services, the Follon Student Services Center and Public Safety. The university expects to re-open the building sometime after the start of the spring semester. An investigation surrounding the fires continues. 4. Panther Football Advances in Post-Season Play

The UNI football team staged a come-from-behind victory on Saturday, November 26th, scoring 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to oust the Eastern Washington Eagles and advance to the 1-AA quarterfinals. The Panthers travel to New Hampshire this Saturday, Dec. 3, to take on the top ranked UNH Wildcats. Game watch locations have been established in several cities. 5. Alumni Association to Participate in 10th Annual Job Fair

The 10th Annual Regents Universities Iowa Job Fair will take place at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines on Friday, Jan. 6. The fair is sponsored by the Alumni Associations of Iowa, Iowa State and UNI. The fair is open to all students and alumni looking for internships and full time employment. 7. UNITE Seeks Volunteers for Upcoming Legislative Session

With another legislative session about to begin in Iowa, UNITE, UNI Together for Education, is seeking alumni volunteers to help convey its legislative priorities to appropriate representatives within the Iowa legislature. 8. 2006 Heritage Honours Awards Nominations Due Dec. 16

Nomination forms for the 2006 Heritage Honours Awards are being accepted through Dec. 16. The awards honor the professional accomplishments of UNI graduates and their service to the University of Northern Iowa. Awards are presented during the Commencement ceremony in May. 9. UNI Foundation Says Thanks $112 Million
