7. UNI Suffers Additional Budget CutAs a result of Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack's 2.5 percent mandated budget cut to select state organizations, UNI will suffer an additional $2 million budget reduction this fiscal year. The University will absorb the cuts by further depleting its building repairs budget and reducing departmental operating budgets. Since 2000, UNI has experienced over $31,000,000 in budget cuts and salary underfundings. The Revenue Estimating Conference will meet again in December. If revenue estimates are lower than expected, the universities could experience additional budget cuts in January. Alumni and friends are encouraged to contact their legislators and explain that students cannot shoulder the burden of increased debt and tuition. For more information on the recent budget cuts or how to contact local legislators, please call UNITE at 319-273-3170 or visit http://www.uni.edu/govrel/unite/.
