1. Homecoming 2004 – It’s Showtime!“It’s Showtime!” has been selected as the 2004 Homecoming theme. Mark your calendars for October 4-9, and plan to return to campus to celebrate all that’s great about UNI! In addition to the football game on Saturday, the women’s soccer team will also be hosting home games during the weekend. Several events are planned specifically for alumni. The annual Alumni Golf Outing takes place on Friday at Beaver Hills Golf & Country Club. (Call Nate Clayberg at 319-273-3860 for tee times.) The Alumni Association’s annual All-Alumni Reception will be held on Friday, October 8th, with the annual Alumni Tailgate on Saturday before the football game. A full schedule of the week’s events will appear in the summer issue of the NIT. Visit http://www.unialum.org/events/homecoming.html for schedule updates.
2. President Koob Stresses UNI is Still AffordableThe budget cuts from the State legislature in recent years have focused a lot of attention on the cost of higher education. UNI’s President Robert Koob ’62, recognizes that affordability of higher education is very real concern for both current and prospective students. Via personal visits and editorials, Koob is spreading the word that an education at UNI is still affordable and is a valuable investment. Visit http://www.uni.edu/pubrel/newsroom/op-ed/quality-ed.shtml to read Koob's editorial, which appeared in the “Cedar Rapids Gazette" and the "Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier."

Part of the West Campus Complex, the McLeod Center will be home to men's and women's basketball and volleyball, serve as a performance venue for wrestling, and host concerts and tradeshows. More details on the groundbreaking ceremony will be posted as they become available at http://www.uni-foundation.org. The McLeod Center is part of the $100 million "Students First" campaign.
6. Students First Campaign UpdateWith a year to go, the Students First $100 million campaign is achieving great success. Over $64 million has been received for scholarship and program support. A recent challenge by alumna Gayle Rose '77, has spurred over $70,000 in new gifts for the Russell Hall renovation project. This challenge, along with a recent $500,000 gift, has brought the amount raised in private gifts for the Russell Hall project to over $1.5 million. A Wall of Champions grassroots fundraising effort for the McLeod Center will occur in the Fall. This will give donors the opportunity to have their name be a permanent part of the Center.
