6. Gifts to Russell Hall Project Total $825,000

Alumni and friends have given $825,000 toward the $2 million component of the "Students First" campaign for renovation of Russell Hall. The $2 million is part of an $8.2 million project to be scheduled over several years and funded from a variety of sources. The renovation will provide additional practice and performance spaces, and high-quality rehearsal and recording facilities for UNI jazz bands. UNI's undergraduate music program is ranked among the nation's very best, and the graduate program is ranked 20th in the nation and is one of the university's signature programs. For more information on the "Students First" campaign, call 800-782-9522 or visit the UNI Foundation website at http://www.uni-foundation.org.

7. News from UNI Athletics

It has been a very difficult year for all departments on campus due to recent budget reductions, and athletics is no exception. In May, Athletic Director Rick Hartzell had to make the difficult decision to cut the Men's Swimming & Diving and Men's Tennis teams due to budget restraints. The loss of these two sports affects 22 students, however, they will be able to transfer to other schools and be eligible to compete. On a brighter note, UNI Athletics will induct eight new members into the Hall of Fame during homecoming weekend. These new members will be honored at a brunch on October 5th. Also, schedules for fall sports are now available! Be sure to see if the Panthers are playing in a city near you! For more information on Panther athletics or to view the schedule of sporting events, please visit their website at http://www.unipanthers.com.

8. Correction from Northern Iowa Today Magazine
