UNI Update

Gilchrist Hall Update
The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, have approved Phase II of the Gilchrist Hall project -- schematic design, project description and budget for renovation and restoration. UNI plans to bid the renovation work in July, following completion of the asbestos-abatement work currently underway. The project is expected to be completed in June 2008. UNI Partners with Youth Soccer

In an effort to build relationships with younger prospective students, UNI is the official presenting sponsor of the US Youth Soccer Iowa Soccer Association State Cup, to be held in May at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex. More than 40 teams, ages 12-14, will compete from around the state. A UNI hospitality tent will be staffed from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday, May 12. Shifts will run every three hours with 3-4 people per shift.  Volunteers will be distributing temporary tattoos and sharing UNI stories. Alumni interested in volunteering may contact melissa.barber@uni.edu.
 
MetaCommunications Donates Software Licenses to UNI Graphic Communications Program
Meta-Communications recently donated state-of-the-art software to UNI. Justin Bierman’99 recently visited campus to provide training on the software to UNI graphic communications students. Sandra (Schwers) Bagan, '87 with husband John and daughters Julia (9) and Colette (6) left their hometown of Boise, Idaho, on October 15, 2006, for a trip around the world. The Bagan family will return in August 2007. Track their progress at http://web.mac.com/baganworldtour/.
 
Honorary Doctorate-Bill BOnnstetter and sonBill Bonnstetter ’64 and his son, David, recently received honorary doctorate degrees from TTI Performance Systems for contributions to their profession. UNI marketing professor Steve Corbin participated in the celebration.
 
Bill has done enormous research and advanced the science of behavior, values and personal talent, while the software programs authored by David transform Bill’s knowledge into a compatible tool for today’s workplace.  Combining the skills and efforts of father and son, the two have created more than 20 personal development and self-management programs to help maximize the potential of individuals in the workforce. These assessments stand as the most reliable and valid assessments in the marketplace and are used by millions worldwide for personal and professional development and effectiveness.
 
Congrats to Kris Huffman ’90 who led the DePauw University Women’s Basketball team to the NCAA III National Championship.

Lux Service Award
The 2007 Lux Service Award recipients have been announced: Timothy McCue (Public Relations Major/Journalism Minor from Iowa City), Tiesha Walker (Leisure, Youth, & Human Services: Nonprofit Youth Administration Major from Cedar Rapids), and Andrea Austin (Major/Chemistry Minor, with an emphasis in Biomedical from Vinton). The award is presented annually to three undergraduates who best represent the ideal of service to the university community. The honor is conferred in the spirit of keeping the light of service to others burning bright at UNI. The name of the award – Lux – comes from the university’s official seal which features a burning lamp of knowledge and the Latin word for light. The award is presented by the UNI Alumni Association.

2007 looks to be a great year in the Dome for Coach Farley's football team. Season tickets went on sale April 1 and it looks to be a great year with a great home schedule and a road game in Ames against Iowa State. Season tickets are $120 for premium seats, $90 for non-premium seats, and this year you can be a part of the RED ZONE in the Dome. RED ZONE season tickets are only $40.
