Oh my gosh... I happened to stumble on the message board after YEARS and YEARS of not reading it. (I know, shame on me). The 4th or 5th message I read was from Peter... Peter Adamson, remember me? I always quoted the Foldgers Commercial to you from across campus... "Peter, you're home!!" I just laughed when I saw your name.
What are you doing in NY?
Why aren't you home with the Panthers??

Howdy to all Cats who were on campus from 89-95. Especially those Band Geeks who were part of the "Fireman's Family".
Gotta love the Purple and Gold... those "other" state schools just don't get what its all about. (Maybe that's why "we are ever loyal... showing strength and unity" ). Drop me a line if you know me... and Peter... come home soon!!! :-)

One of my fondest memories while attending this great university, by far, was the football game matchup of UNI vs. Southern Illinois shootout for a share of the Gateway Conference championship in 2003. I was one of those many rooting and pushing hard for my fellow PANTHERS to come back and win, despite trailing 28-7 at halftime. Sure enough they came back in the most exciting game ever played. Also I will never forget the many people I got to know while enrolled at UNI College of Business. I have lost contact with many, so if any of you are reading this, feel free to contact me. Any fellow American Marketing Association members from the 200-2004 academic year give me a shout back some time. It would be great to here from you. Later, Lonnie

I cannot believe it! On the YSU website I just saw that the attendance at the game today was 11,200...... I don't believe so few people were there. Why is it so difficult to get 16,000 people at a game in the dome, let alone for such an important game?

I have such fond memories of UNI--thanks to all the students and faculty/staff who made it so memorable! I was there from 1989-1993 and was in many vocal and instrumental ensembles, many theater productions, Old Gold yearbook, Northern Iowan newspaper, and many other clubs and organizations--I was also an RA in Noehren. If anyone has contact info for Chad Boydston, Kipp Brower, Brad Grosskreutz, Jeff Young or Kevin Hanna, please contact me!

Just listened to the football game with Indiana State, after I had watched the UNI Homecoming parade on the net. Many thanks to the UNI website for the webcast of the parade (was a bit disappointed at how very, very few high school bands did not appear in the parade, including the lab school, and Cedar Falls! let alone the Waterloo schools, etc etc etc....) but I loved it!!!!! Thanks! And then the game was played well, and a new quarterback has come in and seemed to establish himself well (once again.....do we always have to replace a quarterback just before the homecoming game? And, best wishes, Eric Sanders! You have a fan here!!!!)
Well done, Panthers!!!!!!!!!!! Great homecoming win!

A year ago I have the total thrill of attending homecoming. What a weekend! So many people from the alumni association, the university, and the alumni, made it a fantastic experience. I learned only when I was there, that we would not hear the campanile, as the carilloneur had died, and another could not be found to hire. I had not heard of that on the UNI website, so I was shocked, and disappointed, as the campanile and the bells were a VERY important part of life at UNI! I was, however, shocked in a wonderful way, to heal the carillon after the parade on Saturday, being played for a long time. Someone had been hired for the day. I am reminded, with Homecoming weekend....has another person ever been found/hired?

I was in Rider hall 1977-1978 and Bartlett from 1978-1982. It was pretty rowdy. Anyone remember P.O.E.T.S. club "meetings" in the loft? Food fights in the cafeteria afterwards? Drinking heavily on "The Hill"? The flood of 1981? Anyone reading this remember working in Strayer-Wood Theatre when it was brand new? Man! I think back to the people and friends I knew while at UNI. I realize they were and still are very special to me. I sometimes long to play hacky sack in the hallway at Bartlett Hall, or walk through the lobby to visit a girlfriend on the other side. I actually miss the frigid January walks at night across campus with the sky so clear you could mark the Milky Way! I had the best time and the best education at UNI. I got a Teaching Certificate in Speech/Theatre and Psychology. So, naturally I work on mainframe computers at Sprint! In all fairness, I do write and conduct training classes for the Systems Analysts, so I actually use some of what I was trained
in! Wish I could be there for homecoming! Go Panthers!

Down with Drake!!!!! When I attended UNI, we played Drake each year. The first year we won, but then, we could NOT do it! We lost 21-12, 21-13, 21-3. My father and mother can to see a UNI game and watched one of those loses....a huge embarrassment to me. I drove to Des Moines with friends one year and watched the final play of the first half being a UNI punt, which Drake left untouched, and UNI left untouched, and then Drake picked it up and ran it back for a touchdown to beat us again. :( So, YES! DOWN WITH DRAKE! Well done, Panthers!!!!!

Last I heard, the venerable institution known as Stebs was a hole in the ground. What a shame. In all my travels I have never found a bar that was as cool as that place. God Bless you Sherm and Dave. Freshman year it was the first place I got into with may fake ID to see a band called Trip Shakespear. The show was great, but I think I spent most of the time trippin on the ceiling. I would like to hear any stories that you would like to share about Steb's. I have a good friend in Seattle, Misha Simmer who used to bartend there around 1991 and she is contact with hundreds of folks from there. Would love to read and share your memories of the place. A few comments/questions... After returning from Homecoming (Wow! What a great time!) I have to say that I am curious. When I was in school, we had an "alma mater" the first year, and then the name of the school changed. We then only had "America The Beautiful" played wherever an alma mater would be played. I remember submitting a proposal for words to fit the name change, but the student government, to whom it was sent, never replied, and we continued to only have "America The Beautiful" played. At Homecoming I was pleased to hear the alma mater played. The tune is the same as it was more than 40 years ago, but it must have new words. I have been checking this site fairly carefully but I cannot find the words for it anywhere. Does anyone know/have those words? And another question.....there is a link here to order thinks from University Book and Supply. I have tried 4 days in a row to order with from them, but I get internal error/syntax messages from them. I have e-mailed them 3 times, but no answers...I tried their 800 number, but it is "not available in this area." Does anyone know how to contact them via e-mail? Thanks!

Just want to say hi to those whom I met/re-met at homecoming....!!!!! Wow! UNI is the BEST! Even Mark Steines is very down to earth, and just one of us, from UNI! :) I met a couple of you from 1964 at the breakfast, etc, and I have forgotten your names, but would REALLY love to have contact, if you are reading this! Bill? (I believe your name is, and you also knew David Strait and Adrian Frana, and you teach at NE Missouri State) and Sandy Stevens (whom I also learned is about the one and ONLY female referee in NCAA wrestling, and has worked the FINALS!!!! Good for you, Sandy!!!) and then Rosemary Kuennen (forget your married name) but we had the same major and classes, and instructors, and we sat together at the breakfast, and then the parade...) and the guy whom I met at the All-Alumni Reunion, who was born the same year some people I was talking to graduated (1956, I believe) and whom I also talked to at the ground breaking ceremony on Saturday (your niece is doing beyond super wonderful!!!!!) Please, contact me!!!!! ???? !!!! Thanks! Hi Jennifer!!! You are GREAT!!! Hi, Noreen!!!! :) THANKS a million!!!

Hi, My friend and I were trying to search for our friend by the name of Jason Slaughterback. He was going to UNI at the same time as we did. We were there Fall of 1993 and I think he was there with us till 1996 or 1995. He lived in the Bartlett Hall Dorms where we did. If you can tell me a phone number and where we can reach him that will be great. I cannot seem to locate him. It is a shame that we have lost touch with him. We were wondering if you could give us a number on where we could call him at. Thanks, Sumita & Catherine

KYTC moved to the union when it opened and operated as a carrier current station there next to the keyhole lounge under those call letters . I worked at the old house in '68-'69 and had a late night show that included electronic synthesizer music and motown. Those were not being played at that time. Marlin Possehl was the station manager and lived in Rider Hall, Sherman House. I lived in the back studio for a couple months in '69 until I got married in March. We really enjoyed the house better than being closed up in the union and had a weather porch outside with a wind sock (black crew), a thermometer (not rectal), and a shot glass to measure precipitation. Often times you couldn't get the weather service so you made up the report, mandatory on the half hour. We closed down at midnight and the studio was a favorite place for late night studying and parties. Most students didn't own stereos and we only played wax 45's and occasionally album 33's. We had one of the first Collins 8 tracks for commercials/PSA's and an Ampex reel to reel. I often prerecorded a show on the Ampex and played it if I had a test to study for the next day and didn't have time to do the whole show. I would just do the weather. I usually had the 8-12 spot playing stacks and stacks of packs of wax - the pick of the pop and the tip of the top music. I orginated the "Make it or Break it Hour" playing promo records and breaking the ones no one liked over a mike in a box in the remote studio.

I am a 1987 Public Relations grad who moved to West LA three years ago, after spending three years in San Diego, and about that much time in Boston, Louisville, and Columbus- all stops on my old Corporate tour life. I am in the process of setting up camp here- complete with a house I own that is about the size of a tent. There are very few places I would move at this point. Except for Des Moines, where I own a house South of Grand that is ready for kids and a dog, if I get around to it. It is always fun to connect with Iowa people and a Northern Iowa grad who lives in West LA would be crazy. Oh yeah- to be clear, I do have a girlfriend and a cat. All e-mails responded to promptly and try to give me some background, demographic info, full doc tax returns, etc. Hope to connect soon! JVG
